We believe Jesus is King and that He is calling all people to follow Him. We are committed to following Jesus as the Lord of all the Earth and making Him known.
We believe Jesus instituted the local church to be the instrument of His mission to reach the ends of the Earth. We are committed to meeting together as the people of God.
We believe God has been and is still at work in Boston. We are committed to being a part of His Kingdom work here in the city.
The official launch of Symphony Church was September 5th, 2010, but, as with many things, the roots of Symphony began much earlier.
In 2003, God gave Barry Kang, then a 27-year-old bond trader in Los Angeles, a heart and calling toward college students. Soon after, he left the world of finance to join the staff at Church of Southland as the college pastor. In 2004, God confronted Pastor Barry with the tremendous need for the gospel to be preached in Boston. Thus the seed which would become Symphony Church was sown.
In 2008, Church of Southland sent Pastor Barry and his family to Grace Covenant Church in Philadelphia, where God would build the core of the Church planting team and in June, 2010, Grace Covenant Church sent out eight intrepid church planters to Boston. After a few preview services, Symphony's inaugural service was held on September 5th, 2010 at the MATCH School near Boston University's campus.
Over the past years, we have seen God’s dramatic provision and grace. We moved our Sunday Services to the Paradise Rock Club in 2013. We planted a second site in the Fenway area in 2015. We sent a team to plant a church in Taipei, Taiwan, in 2018. We have now multiplied into a vibrant community of college students, single young adults, young married couples, and families. We know God is not done and we are excited to see how He continues to use us in Boston and to the ends of the earth!
