Before receiving his calling into ministry, Barry worked for a boutique investment management company in downtown Los Angeles. Educated in Hong Kong (elementary through high-school) and then at Stanford University, Barry thought his life was going to be about making lots of money, but God had other ideas. In 2003, God called Barry to minister to college students, and he has been loving college students ever since. Barry was the college pastor at the Church of Southland in Los Angeles (an AMI™ church) for five years, during which time he also received his M.Div from Fuller Seminary. In 2008, God moved Barry and his family to Philadelphia to minister at Grace Covenant Church as a preparatory step to moving to Boston. In June 2010, Barry, his wife Sunny, and two boys (Caleb and Micah), and six team members moved to Boston to plant Symphony Church.
Barry lives in Arlington, MA, where he coaches boys soccer and enjoys watching his sons play baseball, soccer and hockey.
Shan was born and raised in Pennsylvania and attended the University of Pennsylvania, graduating in 2004 with a B.A. in Psychology. During his college years, he came to Christ at Grace Covenant Church (GCC). Shan served at GCC for 10 years as a lay leader and later a college pastor. In 2012, Shan moved to Boston to join the staff at Symphony Church and to also get his M.Div from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. Now as Symphony’s Fenway site pastor, Shan is excited to see God transform lives through Symphony’s ministry to the Fenway, Longwood, and South End neighborhoods of Boston.
Shan is a huge Philadelphia sports fan and also enjoys eating and spending time with his wife Jenny and his son Tyler.
David grew up in California and attended UC Berkeley for his B.A. in Architecture before moving to Boston to receive his M.Div at Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary. He has been serving on staff at Symphony Church since 2012 and is currently the College Pastor. David is married to his wonderful wife, Grace, and they both have a vision to raise up a generation of kingdom-minded servants to rise up to join God’s Mission!
David loves many things, but he especially loves: his wife, basketball (Golden State Warriors!), guitars, healing ministry, worship, the book of Genesis, and Jesus.
Doug attended the University of Pennsylvania where he served at Grace Covenant Church (GCC). Upon graduating in 2010, he moved to Boston as part of the church plant team and has been serving at Symphony since then. Doug is currently working towards his M.Div. at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. At Symphony, Doug leads the Young Adult Ministry, where he is excited to see God raise up kingdom workers committed to serving the city and the world.
Doug married Cindy in 2012 and they had their first daughter, Audrey, in August 2016. Cindy, who is on Lay Staff at Symphony, also serves in the Young Adult ministry. They currently live in Arlington with their dear cat, Moby (or Mobius Prime).
Chan is currently a student at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary where he is working toward a Masters in Divinity. Before moving to the Boston area, he lived in Philadelphia where he worked for three years in broadcast journalism after graduating from the University of Pennsylvania. While in Philadelphia, Chan attended and served at Grace Covenant Church (GCC) where he came to truly understand the love of Christ and where he developed a desire to be involved in the redemptive work God does in the lives of His people. Chan is also part of the college ministry staff and is currently overseeing the college ministry at Gordon College.
Chan loves worship, music, watching and playing sports (especially basketball!) and movies.
Michael grew up in New Jersey and graduated from Cornell University in 2013 with a B.S. in Industrial and Labor Relations. It was during his freshmen year of college when Michael became a believer and follower of Jesus Christ after having encountered the everlasting love of God and the hope of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Upon graduation, Michael worked in Boston for three years in sales and business operations. Along the way, God called Michael into full-time ministry, and he is currently working towards his M.Div. at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary.
In his free time, Michael enjoys music, movies, tennis, and good food.
Kevin and Mal are currently serving on the lay staff at the Fenway site of Symphony Church. Kevin grew up in Hawaii and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 2010 with an electrical engineering degree. He came to a personal relationship with Christ during his college years at Grace Covenant Church. After staying in Philadelphia for five years after college and serving at GCC, he moved to Boston in 2015 and married Mal shortly after. College was also where Mal met Christ in a personal way, at Remnant Westside Church in New York City, so they are both thankful to be involved in college ministry while working full time in Boston now.
In their free time, they enjoy playing board games and going on runs around Boston.
Upon graduating from Penn, Patrick moved to Boston for his MPH at Boston University and joined Symphony when it started in 2010. He met Deb in Boston, where she had attended Harvard and returned for her residency in Internal Medicine. Patrick later spent a couple years in California but came back to Boston in 2013 for his MBA and, more importantly, to get married! Patrick and Deb have been serving together at Symphony since. They help lead the Young Adult and Finance ministries at the Comm Ave site. Patrick works for a medical device start-up, and Deb is a primary care physician. Both desire to be used by God in their careers to share His love with the world.
